Orpheus Lab H Zero PS Opus II SACD Player
The Orpheus Lab H Zero PS Opus II is a reference-level SACD player designed and manufactured in Switzerland. Part of the company’s Heritage Opus II range, it combines a precision D&M SACD mechanism with the high-accuracy Tempo clock module developed for Orpheus Lab’s Maestro Series. Its sophisticated true dual-mono digital-to-analogue conversion architecture employs eight synchronous current-output DACs per channel, arranged in a proprietary 8-4-4-1 topology. The DAC outputs are grouped in pairs during current-to-voltage conversion, creating four separate analogue signal paths that pass through four parallel Revival Filters before being recombined using precision 0.1% tolerance metal-film resistors. This elaborate architecture is engineered to minimise noise, preserve dynamic range and maintain exceptional phase accuracy.
The H Zero PS Opus II incorporates Orpheus Lab’s proprietary CRQL resistor-based analogue attenuation system, allowing output level adjustment from -16dB to 0dB in precise 0.1dB increments, with independent channel balancing and selectable phase inversion. Balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA outputs provide flexibility when partnering the player with high-performance preamplifiers, while a USB Type B input supports external PCM sources up to 32-bit/384kHz and DSD256. A substantial separate power supply supports the player’s precision digital and analogue circuitry, contributing to a combined weight of 52kg. Combining advanced conversion technology, meticulous analogue signal processing and substantial mechanical engineering, the H Zero PS Opus II provides a highly accomplished digital source for the most ambitious audio systems.
