Lyra
Japan
Lyra is a specialist Japanese moving coil cartridge manufacturer, designed by Jonathan Carr and built by Yoshinori Mishima.
The range includes well-known models such as Delos, Kleos, Etna and Atlas, with the brand recognised for precision tracking, low moving mass and highly developed generator design.
Lyra’s key technical distinction is its “New Angle” technology, which mechanically pre-biases the signal coils so they align correctly under playing conditions rather than at rest. This matters because a cartridge only performs properly when it is tracing a record groove under tracking force. Correctly set up, Lyra cartridges are exceptionally revealing, stable and controlled without losing musical structure or naturalness.

The Lyra Etna is a low-impedance moving coil cartridge designed by Jonathan Carr to deliver exceptional tracking, resolution and dynamic expression. Building on the foundation of the Kleos, the Etna introduces a sophisticated multi-material body construction centred around a solid titanium core, with bronze, stainless steel and aluminium elements working together to improve rigidity and resonance control. It is available in both Standard and low-output SL variants.
A Lyra-designed variable-radius line-contact nude diamond stylus, diamond-coated solid boron cantilever and 6N high-purity copper coils contribute to its clarity, transient speed and precise retrieval of musical detail. The cantilever assembly is mounted directly into the titanium core via Lyra’s high-pressure knife-edge system, creating an exceptionally rigid mechanical interface while the constrained-layer body construction minimises unwanted resonances for greater transparency and dynamic expression.

The Lyra Delos is a low-impedance moving coil cartridge designed by Jonathan Carr to deliver exceptional tracking, resolution and dynamic expression. Its New Angle technology aligns the magnetic circuit, signal coils and core correctly when the cartridge is operating at its specified tracking force, rather than only when the suspension is unloaded.
A nude Microridge line-contact stylus, solid boron cantilever and 6N high-purity copper coils contribute to its clarity, transient speed and precise retrieval of musical detail. The solid machined aluminium body uses non-parallel surfaces to reduce internal resonances, while its medium compliance and 7.3g weight make the Delos suitable for a broad range of medium and medium-high-mass tonearms.
Key features
Low-impedance moving coil design
Lyra New Angle technology
Nude Namiki Microridge line-contact stylus
Solid boron rod cantilever
6N high-purity copper coils
Anodised aluminium body with non-parallel surfaces
0.6mV output at 5cm/sec

Recommended tracking force: 1.72g
Recommended for medium to medium-high-mass tonearms
The Lyra Erodion EVO is a moving coil step-up transformer designed by Jonathan Carr specifically for low-impedance moving coil cartridges. Rather than simply increasing signal voltage, the Erodion EVO has been engineered to preserve bandwidth, dynamic range and transient accuracy, allowing low-output moving coil cartridges to perform at their full potential when partnered with a high-quality moving magnet phonostage.
Custom-wound transformers, direct-wired internal connections and Lyra’s low-capacitance PhonoPipe output cable contribute to exceptional signal integrity and low noise. Offering 26dB of passive gain and optimised for cartridges with internal impedances between 2 and 10 ohms, the Erodion EVO is an outstanding partner for Lyra’s SL cartridges, while also delivering exceptional performance with many other low-impedance moving coil designs.

The Lyra Atlas is a low-impedance moving coil cartridge designed by Jonathan Carr to deliver exceptional tracking, resolution and dynamic expression. As Lyra’s reference stereo cartridge, the Atlas introduces an asymmetrical body structure that suppresses internal standing waves while creating a more direct mechanical path for vibrational energy to dissipate into the tonearm. It is available in both Standard and low-output SL variants.
A Lyra-designed variable-radius line-contact nude diamond stylus, diamond-coated solid boron cantilever and newly developed cross-shaped 6N high-purity copper coil former contribute to its clarity, transient speed and precise retrieval of musical detail. The one-piece titanium body incorporates reduced-area headshell contact and Lyra’s phase-interference resonance control system, while the direct-mounted cantilever assembly provides an exceptionally rigid mechanical interface for outstanding transparency and dynamic expression.
