Avid HiFi
United Kingdom
Avid HiFi is a British high-end audio manufacturer founded by Conrad Mas, best known for turntables, tonearms, phono stages and analogue electronics.
The company’s engineering is based around mechanical grounding, vibration control and maintaining stability at the point where the cartridge reads the groove.
Avid’s strength is the way it treats vinyl replay as a mechanical system, not just a collection of separate parts. Their turntables are built to control resonance, preserve speed stability and give the arm and cartridge a properly stable platform. This makes Avid a strong choice for listeners who want analogue playback with weight, timing and precision.

The AVID Acutus Dark Iron is a reference belt-drive turntable engineered to extract the maximum performance from vinyl replay. Designed and manufactured in the UK, it combines AVID’s proven twin-belt drive system, precision inverted bearing and three-point sprung suspension with an integrated motor assembly that improves belt alignment and rotational consistency while maintaining exceptionally low mechanical noise.
A 10kg precision-machined aluminium platter, inverted stainless steel bearing with a tungsten carbide and sapphire thrust point, and AVID’s frequency-tuned suspension contribute to its clarity, timing and dynamic expression. The integrated high-torque AC synchronous motor, DSP variable-speed power supply and vibration transfer clamp work together to minimise unwanted vibration and preserve the musical integrity of the recording, while optional upgrades including the resin platter mat and dual-operation clamp allow the turntable’s performance to be developed even further.
